Elizabeth continues with her German

April 13, 1943

Princess Elizabeth, eldest daughter of King George VI, is "studying German," reports Reuters.  When the war broke out, the "question arose whether she should continue with her German lessons."  Her parents decided that the princess would continue learning "the language of Schiller and Goethe."

She also speaks French fluently "with a good accent."  At least once a week, only French "is spoken at meal times."

As heiress presumptive, the Princess's lessons include British and world history, with a particular focus on the "history of the British Empire and the development of the Dominions."
