Dorothea sued by foster son

April 2, 1927

Duchess Dorothea of Schleswig-Holstein, having already suffered from the "economic upheaval" in post-war Germany, is now fighting a bankruptcy petition filed against her in a German court by her adopted son, Prince Johann Georg of Schleswig-Holstein, according to the New York Times.

The bankruptcy suit was "made on the plea" that the Duchess "willfully sacrificed her fortune by exchanging her foreign monies for German currency during the inflation period." She chose to do this to help Germany during the difficult "economic troubles."

Duchess Dorothea, who lives at Schloss Primkenau in Silesia, has announced through her chancery, that she intends to fight the petition.

Prince Johann Georg, still a minor, and his sister, were adopted in 1920 by the Duchess and her husband, the late Duke Ernst Gunther, brother-in-law of the former Kaiser Wilhelm II.

The Duke and Duchess adopted the two child of the "impoverished Prince Albert" to provide them with "an education befitting their status."
