If you are in the London area

Next month we resume Anglo-Albanian Association events with an illustrated talk entitled "King Zog in Exile", to be held at the Albanian Embassy (33, St George's Drive, SW1V 4DG) on Wednesday, 19 September, starting at 6.30pm.
The speaker is Neil Rees, author of "A Royal Exile - King Zog and Queen Geraldine of Albania including their wartime exile in the Thames Valley and Chilterns", published in 2010. Neil is from Buckinghamshire and has always had a keen interest in local history. When he discovered that King Zog had lived in exile not far from his home, he felt compelled to research the story, interviewing many people including King Zog's son, Leka.

King Zog's exile resulted from the invasion of Albania by Mussolini's forces on 7 April 1939, two days after the birth of Crown Prince Leka. The Royal Family fled Albania and made their way to London, where they first took up residence in the Ritz Hotel. In 1941 they moved to Parmoor House in Bukinghamshire. They remained in England until 1946, when King Zog accepted an invitation from King Farouk to move to Egypt; in the mid-50s they moved to France, where King Zog died in 1961.

Please send an early indication of whether you wish to attend this event.

Refreshments will be served after Neil Rees's talk.
